***Folks, the new weezer record "Hurley" drops TOMORROW, but you can pick it up RIGHT NOW at any PacSun store. And they also have some very cool new weezer style clothes for sale that are limited and only available at PacSun.

...SoCal Weezer fans, Weezer is doing a thing with AXE for the unique AXE Music One Night Only Concert Series on September 21 in Los Angeles. The location will be a secret but follow AXE on Facebook and Twitter throughout the week to find out how to get tickets. They’ll be leaving them in secret locations, but you’ll have to follow AXE to know exactly when/where.

...People, the day is here, the time is now. After a lot of experimenting and tweaking, The new home of weezer.com is ready for visitors! At some point during Monday (today/tonight), the URL "weezer.com" will start pointing to the new site, while what you know as the current site will live on under the URL "http://classic.weezer.com". (The new site will get all updates and such, while the soon-to-be-old site will get slected updates depending on if the news is regarding a Geffen release.) So when you start seeing something different, we will have officially launched! (refresh your browser if you arent sure).

The most important thing to know is that you will need to RE-REGISTER on the new site in order to participate (beyond normal browsing). And theres a LOT to participate in - every registered member can post on the forums, post their very own blogs, post pictures and video, get email updates, and more! We tried to create the most fan friendly and fan-interactive home for weezer.com, and we think we've succeeded!

Theres still some work to be done for sure, but all the basics are up and running right now. SO... when it pops up at weezer.com, check it out and explore! It's a bit different than most band websites, but after you get the feel of it and see the potential, we think you're gonna like our new home!

A bunch of stuff going on all at once folks -

...On Sirius-XM Radio's Alt-Nation channel, they are debuting new Weezer music from 'Hurley' all weekend! Also you can hear the band doing several brand new performances of some new and older tracks in the Sirius-XM studio!

...Today is/was the official early release of "Hurley" in PacSun stores, which held special listening parties at all their locations. They played the album in its entirety with special commentary by the band added. Besides the new record, they also have some exclusive new limited edition Weezer threads available. Todays picture is of Max McCoy and his brohiem rocking their new Weezer threads at PacSun.

The listening parties were customized for local interests. In the Carbondale, Illinois store location for example, Weezer tribute band "The Pinkerton Complex" performed new and classic Weezer songs during the listening party.

2010/09/09 Memories Video Premiere (for reals) | recording session | News

Ok, sorry about the confusion the other day - yes, "Jersey Shore" airs TODAY, and thus the "Memories" video premiere is TODAY, (Thurs 9/9) during "Jersey Shore" on Mtv. But if you dont want to watch "Jersey Shore" for some odd reason, never fear - just go to Mtv.com to watch the video there. I've seen the final cut of this video and its SO COOL! Stunts, singing, skating, sketchiness, super 8, this video has got it all!

Today, all day, the band is in a studio in L.A., recording some songs old and new for the Red Bull tv station that plays in Europe as well as some additional songs old and new for the US Red Bull website. While they are in the studio all day, the guys are also recording audio for Weezer's Alt Nation weekend this weekend on Sirius XM Radio, as well as recording a special thang for Funny Or Die. Never a dull moment...

Folks, the Big Bumbershoot show is here at last. We're playing after Hole on the main stage. Havent played with Hole since 1994 in NYC at the Academy and/or the z100 show at MSG. anyway, more to come...

Ok, Bumbershoot has been going on forever and is a great festival. Tons of great bands and other cool stuff, and its right downtown so you dont have to go out to East Juhunga and park on somebodys pasture to get there. The mais stage is wisely placed at the end of the Memorial Stadium, creating a cool canyonlike Roman Coliseum style vibe.

After checking out the resseurected Hole, who were pretty solid and entertaining with a twisted cover of "Jeremy" and a pleasantly wasted feeling version of Buffy Sainte-Marie's "Codine" (done a la The Litter's blues punk version from 1968), Weezer took the final slot of Day 2's Main Stage. It was an interesting blast from the bast to share the stage with Courtney, hearkening back to '94 -'95 when we shared several holiday radio shows with Hole right when they and Weezer were both all over what was then called "Modern Rock" radio. That was then, and this is now - it's been a long ride from the 90's and with every new album, weezer has added classic live songs to their setlist, which they tore thru tonight with what has become an expected high level of energy and attention to musical detail. Seattle caught the band at its peak, which was fitting as we now got to LA for 2 weeks for new album promotion, to return to the stage later in September. And conversely, it appears Weezer caught Seattle at its peak - the energy coming off the crowd was intense!

Huge ups to Lance Westgaard for the super custom flying W guitar used on "Hash Pipe" tonight. Lance hand crafted this totally unique and fine instrument and and gifted it to the band today!

Rolling over to the Sonic Boom Fest shortly - lots n lots of bands playing today including Bad Religion, Toyko Police Club, and Rise Against. Should be a good one!

Well, things were looking kinda damp for a while, and the 13,000 strong crowd endured some torrential rain during Bad Religion's set. Then during City And Colour's much more mellow show, the clouds finally parted. By the time Weezer went on, things were positively bright and sunny - at least till the sun went down on the rock.

Today's crowd was wild right out of the gate with heavy crowsurfing going on, 13000 peeps all going nutz in tandem. This was weezers second ever trip to Edmonton, the first being a very breif stop on the 2002 Dusty West Tour. We didnt even have a chance to see the city that time so it felt like the first time we had been here. As we learned today, Edmonton is a nice looking city perched on a dramatic river gorge. And the people were all super nice and friendly, from the hotel staff to the wild fans in the audience today.

Our 2008 tourmates Tokyo Police Club played earlier in the afternoon, and the show was finished up by the heavy punk sounds of Rise Against. Before we knew it we were back at the hotel getting packed up to go to Seattle the next morning. Weez ever onward!

Wow, what a day. Things started out hot sticky and muggy at a bizarre hotel in Essex, known for its culinary institute. Pretty abstract, and no, the food wasnt all that and a bag of chips. In fact, I could have used a nice bag of chips! But I will say this: the free lemonade and fresh baked cookies in the lobby were a terrific unexpected breakfast as we boarded the van to the Expo grounds.

Earlier in the morning, Brian went on a foray into town with none other than Mikey Welsh, Weezer bassist from '98-'01 and currently a terrific visual artist up here in Burlington. Mikey and his family/gang would meet up with us later at the show, as would several others...

I never thought the ferris wheel would begin to be a familiar backdrop for a weezer show, but these days its getting sorta commonplace! The summer fair season is winding down, but we've hit our share this year. And summer stayed in full effect tonight, as the heat wave was still firmly entrenched.

Tonight the band faced the dreaded prospect of the chair. The folding chair. Hundreds of them in fact. These things are a pain. They make people feel like they cant dance, cant move around, cant get loose. It took some doing, but weezer got the Burlington peeps to lose their inhibitions and party down. Rivers gave it his all once again, climbing tents, poles, bleachers, port-a-potties, you name it, all while singing as the boys on stage held things down tight instrumentally.

Before and after the show were some reunions and meetings. The aforementioned Mikey was on hand with some family and friends, and jolly times were had. Then Scott and Pat conspired with Mikey to do a last minute switchheroo, putting Mikey onstage for "Hash Pipe", the first time he'd played with weezer since July 2001. This was done without Rivers knowledge and the double take he did when he saw Mikey for the first time was priceless! Needless to say, everyone was stoked. And as Scott later said "That was fun. Where I come from, thats just what you do. When a former member of a band visits, you offer him the stage." Mikey later said "Fortunately, they picked the one weezer song I still remember how to play!"

Also here tonight was the great Hayley (Weezer_Child), who was thrilled to finally meet herself some weezer. Also Adam O'Brien-Locke, whose fandom dates back to the early RWA days. And it was a real pleasure to finally meet Alec Longstreth, Great comics artist who does a comic book called "Phase 7". Here's Alec's entertaining rundown of his experience tonight!

2010/09/01 Allentown, PA: Allentown Fair | News

Folks, we've just arrived on the scene at the Allentown Fair, and the sun is hot, the fried dough stands are hopping, the ferris wheel is rotating, and our classy crew guys are prepping the stage for rock and roll. Opening tonight is not The Rational Clown Posse NOR Oilcan Johnson as we were told, but thankfully its Gaslight Anthem.

Good greif - well the sun went down on that fair but it never got any cooler! At least not temperature wise... However, as the evening progressed it got a LOT cooler entertainment wise! Gaslight Anthem delivered a cracking set and then Weezer did its thang. Despite the utter opressiveness of the oven like air, Rivers and co. fought hard and got the energy level up to the now-usual weez standard of: "high", with moments of "nutso" sprinkled in whenever possible. Excellent guest stars came in the form of a small stuffed tiger and a giant pink stuffed gorilla. I hope the security guard who took that inexplicable head first mini-dive to concrete out near the front-of-house area is ok. He looked more mad than hurt. What in the world happened there? A very strange accident as the RC whirlwind blew through the crowd, stoking up the fair peeps everywhere he scampered.

Big ups to Greg H. on the scene!

2010/08/29 Little John's Farm, Reading, England: Reading Festival | News

Well, Reading had a lot. A whole lot of love. And a whole lot of people, more than at Leeds, if that is even possible. Maybe it was my congested sinuses or my pharmacy-bought "Mucus" brand cough syrup talking, but I swear it looked as if you could see the curve of the earth, such was the sheer girth and breadth of the crowd. Monumental! And this monumental crowd gave it all, and Weezer gave it right back at them. The set felt smoother, more confident, and just plain excellent tonight. Rivers gave his all again, exploring new forms of spontaneous madness as he scurried to and fro, getting down and (literally) dirty with the crowd.

After the show Rivers had interviews with a number of reporters, including one from BBC 6 Radio. He also had a photo shoot with Rock Sound magazine.

Today we had a bit more chill time and we got to see the re-ignited fury of Limp Bizkit and take in the hazy vibes of Cypress Hill. After Weezer, Paramore played a hyperactive set and we caught a bit of our budrows Blink before we had to roll back up to London to start packing for the return flight to the US and A. Thank you UK fans, for making our 1st foray back to England in 5 years so fun!

2010/08/28 Leeds, West Yorkshire, England: Leeds Festival | News

...After a day of rest, frolic (example here) and a Black Cab Session in London, we took a late night bus ride North to Leeds, where today, after a successful stop to exchange some corn, we are heading over to the Festival to rock out. Also on the bill today are last years tourmates Blink-182, the resurrected Limp Bizkit, and Paramore, whose singer Hayley once guest starred on our stage last fall in NYC.

Rolling into the Leeds Festival area on the double decker tourbus brought back vivid memories of past Euro and UK tours, the exact feelings that were recently summed up in the new song "Memories". Not that we saw piles of freaky Dutch kids getting down in the woods today, but the skinny winding roads, quaint stone farmhouses and olde forests of England really struck a chord. Once we got settled in, the pre-show preparations took a fun turn when Rivers sorted out how to set up a live video stream from the dressing room on Ustream. Today also was a day of reunions and old friends, with fun times with the guys from Blink, Hayley from Paramore, Wes Borland from Limp Bizkit, our early 2000's label head Jordan, and our early 2000's tour manager Gus all on the scene.

The show was almost too big! There's something almost daunting looking out upon a scene where you cant take it all in because it falls over the horizon, a sea of people on an endless sloping hillock. But it was awe-inspiring at the same time. And the people out there were having it - they had waited 5 years for weezer, and they knew it was time to get crazy! And Rivers and the boys brought the insanity they needed. Ridiculous! Great times.

Postshow, Rivers and Pat did some interviews with the likes of NME and BBC Radio 6. Another one too but I missed that one.

2010/08/26 The Inexorable Return To Old Blighty | News

...Today we landed in the UK after an overnight flight from Los Angeles. Our flight was shared with Sharon Osbourne, but unfortunately not Ozzy, so chalk that up as a missed photo opportunity if there ever was one.

Todays photo of Steve Alba shredding high above Pat is a bit of a sneak peek into the recent "Memories" video shoot, which took place at the hugely important skateboard spot, the Pink Motel way out in the far reaches of the San Fernando Valley. Weezer, all the Jackass guys, and some legendary athletes like Steve Alba, Christian Hosoi, BMXer Matt Hoffman, and other riders from Girl Skateboards and from all walks of life and age groups converged on the scene for a raucous skate and stunt riddled afternoon in the hot California sun. I was honored to be able to photograph and videotape the riding going on, having grown up looking at these guys shredding in Thrasher and Transworld. And being able to skate the Pink Motel pool was a dream come true, over 20 years after I learned about it on the Bones Brigade Animal Chin video (on VHS!). Indeed that pool kicked my butt, but thats what I get for being ill-prepared for its unforgiving walls. I cherish every bruise it gave me! The "Memories" video is being edited now. Not sure when exactly it will debut, but its on its ragged glorious way....

...Death To False Metal... A Collection Of Unheard Songs From The Weezer Vault (formerly known as 'Odds And Ends') / Pinkerton Deluxe Edition update...

* Both releases are due out on November 2
* Death To False Metal will have several different exclusive bonus tracks (beyond the main album) available thru different digital and possibly international outlets. You will want to gather them all, as they all are pretty darn cool.
* including the bonus tracks, Death To False Metal's time span of material runs from 1993 to 2008, and includes tracks from the "weezer mystery year" 1998.
* Pinkerton Deluxe will be comprised of 2 discs + a thick photo and text stuffed booklet in a deluxe dual gatefold digipak, and maybe a surprise or two.
* The Super Deluxe edition of Pinkerton has been called off - instead Rivers' Pinkerton Book and Alone 3 will be released as stand alone items. Release dates on those havent been set yet, but Im for now assuming they will be around the same time as P:DE.
* a special 7" is being planned that may have a track each from Death To False Metal and Pinkerton Deluxe.
* As far as Pinkerton Deluxe goes, I would love to say "vinyl lovers rejoice!" but at this moment I can only say "vinyl lovers... keep your fingers crossed and pray".

Yesterday Brian posted a message on our message boards, in response to a misunderstanding about our upcoming album "Hurley". In the interest of clearing things up as much as possible, here is Brians message reprinted, from this post:

"Just wanted to clear something up

Recently I did an interview in Denver where I was asked why we called the album Hurley. I mistakenly said that Hurley funded the album. I later found out that it wasn’t true at all. Weezer paid for every penny of this recording. The reason the record is called “Hurley” is because Hurley (Jorge Garcia) is on the cover. We thought about leaving the record untitled for the fourth time, but that causes a lot of problems and we knew people would end up calling the record “Hurley” anyway. We got no money for calling the record “Hurley.” thanks folks,

...and in response to some further questions in Brian's thread, I wrote the following additional info:

"hi folks. its not that hurley and weezer have *nothing* to do with each other - yes the album is going to be carried in PacSun stores which also sell Hurley clothes, and they are doing some new weez clothes, etc. But the point is that Hurley didnt fund the recording nor do they have anything to do with the music - the album was independently recorded and paid for by the band, and put out on Epitaph. Weezer has been doing promotional and merch deals and etc for 15+ years, that sort of stuff is nothing new. But Brian misspoke when he thought Hurley paid for the album."

2010/08/21 Del Mar, CA: Del Mar Racetrack | News

Todays show takes place at the Del Mar Racetrack, a scenic horse racing joint about 20 miles North of San Diego. The races are going as usual all afternoon, then at 7 PM Weezer hits the stage...

The Racetrack was also the site of the Del Mar Fair, so on top of the daytime horseracing going on there was a midway with all the usual fair food and such we've come to expect at or near a Weezer show this summer. "Del Mar" means "from the sea", and yes indeed we were by the sea, the glorious Pacific. As well as a sea of people who braved a sea of traffic to get here! No trippin down this freeway - yours truly was crawling down the 5 freeway for 4 hours and 45 minutes to make the 100 mile trip, and that was true of many who attended. Wow. Is it time to make the I-5 a double decker freeway? Weezer waited a little while extra before they started tonight to allow for the many people who were still stuck in traffic at 7 PM to park and actually get near the stage. By the time the band started, there was just an incredible sea of people massed and ready to rock, filling in every nook and cranny, literally surrounding 3 sides of the stage as far as the eye could see. And despite the logistical and technical challenges that this unusual venue location afforded, rock they did, just as much as the band rocked. Which was quite a lot!

Tonight was the earth-shaking world live premiere public performance of "Memories" and it went down like gangbusters!

...A few more details are coming into focus at last regarding some upcoming Weezer releases that are *not* Hurley. On November 2 (moved from Oct 19, not sure why) both "Death To False Metal... A Collection Of Unheard Songs From The Weezer Vault" (formerly known as 'Odds And Ends') AND Pinkerton : Deluxe Edition will be released on Geffen Records. The 2 disc Pinkerton Deluxe Edition will also be available as a limited Superdeluxe edition, with an additional 3rd CD that will comprise the 3rd Volume of Rivers' "Alone" series of home demos, plus an amazing book of pictures and recollections from that era that Rivers has been putting together. More details about both these releases are coming soon.

Today is a challenging "fly then play" day, but as unpreferred as it is to do things this way, it happens often enough that we're used to it. Essentially, you wake up early after a show day, go to the airport and fly to the new city, get set up, and then do the show. If you are lucky theres a few hours before showtime to rest and gather ones wits. If not, then you power thru and hope the next day is a day off! Today is the second of 2 days of another multi-act festival type show, so there should be plenty of action. Other artists performing today include Z-Trip, My Morning Jacket, Train, Dave Matthews, Jimmy Cliff...

A wild wind whipped up as the afternoon went on, and as Train left the stage the difficult decision had to be made to lower the flying =w= sign, lest it be blown off its supports and tossed to the 4 winds. So we went without an important metal and glass mascot for this show, but such was the combined power of the crowds amazing good cheer and the bands intense energy that it didnt even matter. Denver has traditionally been known to the weez as a very stoked but somewhat mellow fanbase. It might have something to do with the mile high atmosphere or a generally more relaxed vibe, but thats just the way it is up here. However today the crowd energy was very high. Not high enough to muster up the crowdsurfing so prevalent a bit farther East, but still just terrific with the massive singlalongs and chanting and freaking out one hopes for.

Rivers is always pulling shenanigans during these shows, but rarely does the shenanigan-ee report their experiences like this: First person account, with pix, from the photographer whose camera Rivers temporarily absconded with during "Troublemaker"!

Off we go to the River Riot, the festival style show put on by 89.7 The River, with a bunch of other bands including Cage The Elephant and the resurrected Stone Temple Pilots. Should be a fun day. Would be nice if the temperature dropped about 20 degrees though!

What is is about the raw power and fury of the Midwest that makes for such crazy shows? One thing i think I have finally deduced is that girls are not afraid to crowd surf out here, and they do so in amazing quantity and with style and panache. Add that to the human tidal wave of screaming dancing freaking out people and the more expected (but still sadly rare these days outside of the midwest) guy crowdsurfers, it really put the evening over the edge. Another thing about a good midwest show is that people will dress up in full blue body suits for no known reason except to become The Blue Guy. And furthermore, the ability to attend a rock show in a full on chicken costume is a must, because what is a hot sweaty, loud, shredding experience in a beer-soaked Iowan field without Chicken Guy? The answer is that a hot sweaty, loud, shredding experience in a beer-soaked Iowan field without Blue Guy and Chicken Guy is just not over the top the way a weezer show needs to be.

So thanks to the amazing crowd tonight, you gave it your all, as did the band. You'd never know that Rivers was feeling under the weather and was battling to keep his voice alive all day prior to the show. Energy. We has it.

Following weezer were StoTemPi, i.e. The Stone Temple Pilots, who are in the midst of a comeback/reunion. They invited Josh to play the drums on the grunge era classic "Sex Type Thing" and Josh was happy to join in and oblige.

So thanks Omaha and Council Bluffs and that whole Missouri River region, you turned a dirty ol' patch of farmland into an epic rock event!

2010/08/13 Hurley, Memories, Iowa, Corn, NO Corn, Pre-Order! | News

Today the troops have gathered in the Omaha Nebraska metropolitan area, in anticipation of tomorrow's rock show at the Westfair Amphitheatre in Council Bluffs, Iowa, just across the mighty Missouri River. We've got another mini-block of shows this weekend, then some time in L.A. is needed as the promotion machine heats up for the upcoming new weezer album "Hurley".

Yes, as you probably have heard by now, "Hurley" is out on 9/14 on Epitaph Records, and features the smiling face of Jorge Garcia (aka... 'Hurley') on the cover. (Want to know what Jorge thinks of his sudden entry into the Weez family? Read this.) And if you havent seen it yet, check it out on our fresh new Hurley-style Myspace page, redressed for success. Also there you can listen to the first single from Hurley, "Memories"! Members of our mailing list received the track for free this past Monday, but if you missed it, listen on Myspace, Weezer Radio, or request it on your local station. Its just getting started at this point, playing on both 98.7 and KROQ in L.A. now. But spread it shall...

"But Karl", you say, "I want to pre-order Hurley in a variety of formats and get cool new weezer t-shirts to boot! Where can i go?" Well, friend, you need only go to this Epitaph online merch store page, and all the goodies are there for the plundering! The green vinyl edition of the LP is limited to 1000 pieces and they are going fast. And the shirts are exclusive to the Epitaph Store for the pre-order. Check it out, and don't choose now to be taking your nap!

'Hurley' will be available on CD and digitally in a 10 song standard edition and a Deluxe edition with bonus tracks. The Vinyl LP is available as the US Standard edition only, in black wax and above-mentioned limited green wax. Pre-ordering either edition on iTunes entitles you to an exclusive bonus video item....which is good n' strange, the way you like it.

Weez collectors have already been emailing me with questions about formats, different editions for different countries, Memories single formats, iTunes exclusives and the like. I am working to get a list together of everything once the tracklisting has been officially released and all the details have come in. 2010/08/01 Montreal, Quebec, Canada: Osheaga Music And Arts Festival | News

After a somewhat crusty day of travel up from Ohio, we've been enjoying the fine city of Montreal, where its been 5 years since Weezer has last visited. Tonight we perform at the mighty Osheaga, along such greats as Sonic Youth, Devo, Snoop Dogg, and the Black Keys...

"To see a weezer concert in 2010 is to witness something extraordinary" - Me

We rolled over to the Osheaga Festival to discover the artist area was totally separate from the stage and audience zone, and it took a dusty golf cart ride thru the mosquito-laden woods to get over to where the action was. But all the festival people were super friendly and the bands were great. Snoop Dogg killed it and watching Sonic Youth shred their way through the waves of feedback was just amazing. Weezer got a dressing room visit from Sonic Youth before they went onstage and all reported it was great. Josh Freese is rumored to have superpowers but even he couldnt be in 2 places at once as Devo and Weezer were both on tonight's bill. Weezer asked him first in this case so Devo had a substitute in for Josh.

This was a HUGE festival, reminiscent of some of the massive Euro and UK summer festivals. Nonetheless, weezer dove right into the action and showed the Montreal people how they rock it whether small medium large, or, like tonight, super-size. Everyone was having a great time tonight, and Rivers pushed the envelope even further than ever, making it up into the distant bleachers to sing with the crowd and pouring and serving a (gratis) beer to a fan in the vip drink tent - all while singing the song! And the Montreal crowd really took it up a notch, which is saying something considering how good and crazy the crowds have been this summer. Thank you Montreal!

To those who were asking if I was injured during the show, the answer is yes but I'm fine now, thanks. while down int he photo pit, a security guy decided to do a roundhouse kick on one of our giant beachballs that came back from the crowd, but he miscalculated and caught me broadside in the face at point blank range, as i was aiming for a photo. So my camera cracked me in the eye and bent my glasses. I was out for about half a song while i got my scene back together, but like most show injuries, it all melts away in the chaotic pure rock froth!

The next morning in the Montreal airport I ran into our 2000-2005 lighting man Dan Hadley, who introduced me to Mark Ibold of Sonic Youth and Pavement. One wonderful Burger King breakfast with Mark later, we said bye and at that moment I spotted Snoop Dogg walking by grinning ear to ear! I said to Mark "did you see Snoop?" and he said "no, I didn't know that was him ...I, er, I really don't watch much TV." Classic! Big ups to Mark, Dan, Sonic Youth, Snoop Dogg and Pavement! And the Crossan'wich, hold the bacon!

The answer to the above question is a solid "No!" and the evidence was all over today's events. When you have the original Bat-Copter giving rides, a gospel choir singing, a circus sideshow, and people of every shape and size walking the lanes eating every conceivable kind of fair food, well, adding weezer to the scene couldn't be a more perfect fit. For a weezer show has feats of strength, wide variety, profound and wonderful strangeness, and something for almost everybody. The fun was infectious, with people dancing and running around after Rivers like he was the Pied Piper. Read the comments on this post for a taste of the flava from tonight, including a word from Rivers himself!

Tonight's show was opened by Motion City Soundtrack, who also opened up last December's dates. Thanks to them for rocking the fair with us!

2010/07/24 Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada: Halifax Commons | News

...First time in Halifax for Weezer, and the city has shown itself to be a fine place to hang out, from the Shakespeare in the park to the record and book shops to the tasty grub. Halifax is the ancestral home of Canadian uber-alt-rockers Sloan, who were the band that Weezer's A+R guy Todd signed to DGC just prior to pursuing weezer. Their endorsement of Todd and DGC helped set weezer on the course that led to Weezer's original record deal being signed. We dont know if those guys even live here anymore, but it is a very cool town regardless.

About to hit up the Halifax Commons, where we will reunite with our '05 tourmates and St. Johns opener Hot Hot Heat, as well as encounter the mighty Black Eyed Peas who are headlining todays show.

The third in a trio of epic Canadian shows has gone down in the history books. Like St. John's the Halifax people were way overdue for a taste of weezer, and the feeling was mutual. The rock was massive and Rivers covered a lot of ground as a delighted crowd raged and smiled. It took a little doing to stoke up the seated section, but Rivers and the boys are becoming experts at pulling of the improbable and this evening's show was no exception. Watching weezer from the side for most of the show was The Black Eyed Peas, who said some very nice things about the weez during their own blistering set later on. Earlier Hot Hot Heat opened the show up, the third show they've been with us on this run. They are just as tight and cool as they were when they opened up a string of Foozer Tour dates back in '05.

A big Shout out to superfan Kyle M in attendance, who has remained dedicated to the weez thru thick and thin since the primordial pre weezer.com days. Good luck to Kyle and his band Cop Shades on their own Canadian tour coming up shortly. And a major shout out to @Surfivor2010 who has been devoted to the weez since the blue album came out, and never dreamed the day would come when Weezer would get to Halifax. With a few well timed tweets during the show, he found himself shaking hands with a stoked Rivers post show! Its super fun to connect up with the committed fans, both long term devotees and the newly minted members of the weez army.

2010/07/22 St.John's, Newfoundland And Labrador, Canada: Mile One Centre | News

...We rolled into the charming city of St. John's two days ago and settled into some R+R mixed with catching up on work. People said this was a friendly city and they weren't kidding! That combined with the picturesque harbor views, dynamite fish and chips, and the sightseeing ranging from rugged coastlines to whale watching has made for a great time so far. The good times are scheduled to continue this evening at the Mile One Centre, where the first ever Weezer St. John's rock show is going down. More later....

Another first tonight, with the St. John's fans finally getting their sip of the Weez live rock extravaganza, and holy cow, were they ever ready for it! Tonight is best described as an outstanding turbulent collision between the crowd's pent up energy and the bands sonic and visual assault. It was a real delight to finally bring weezer to this much-deserving corner of Canada, and the St. Johns peeps showed they know how to rock hard. 2010/07/18 Ottawa, Ontario, Canada: Ottowa Blues Festival | News

...After an 8 AM border crossing roust from bus-sleep, we rolled on into Northeast Ontario, to the sunny and quite pretty city of Ottawa, the center (centre) of Canada's government, and home of an annual blues festival. Weezer is not a blues band (well, not at first glance anyway), but thats sort of the nature of these festivals nowadays - they take on all sorts of acts. For example, back in Sarnia, the festival's "country night" was headlined by the Black Eyed Peas, which is quite a stretch.

Well, this was Weezer's first ever show in Ottawa, so we expected some pent up excitement, but this Bluesfest crowd took things over the edge! It didnt hurt that Rivers was fully in explorer mode, checking out every corner of the facilities as he sang, stoking people up who were nowhere near the stage. Or maybe it was just the fact that it was the closing night of the festival and people were ready to let loose. In any event, that was a fun, wild and crazy show by everyones standards. Good jam!

Big ups to Mike Young, longtime fan and 'SFTBH' researcher at the show tonight. Like the other Ottawa fans, he was waiting a long time for this show.

2010/07/16 Brooklyn NY, NYC: Williamsburg Waterfront | News

...It's a steaming hot day today in New York. We drove over the mighty Williamsburg Bridge to the Williamsburg Waterfront, which just might have the nicest view of any venue in the country, the entire Manhattan skyline. Soon the 3 band bill will begin with Awolnation, followed by Rival Schools' 3rd show with us, and then Weezer of course.

Matt Pinfield was there for RXP to do the band introduction in style. Earlier in the day he did an interview with Rivers that is now available on his Pinfield Podcast here.

Todays show also represented a lot of friend and family reunions for the band and crew alike. Backstage was festive and hopping with lil kids and quality chaos much of the day. Big ups to Ami Spishock, Pete Cammarata (weezerisland), Dan Bleed, Ali Mutant, Brians sister Leia for the awesome limited edition silkscreened show posters, and Possum Tom from the Strut!

...today we zipped up the horrifically traffic clogged I-95 enroute to Mashantucket, CT, and the Foxwoods Casino for a rock n roll event starring Weezer, with Rival Schools opening again. The Foxwoods is a large formal theater that looked a bit unsuited to getting crazy with the rock and the roll, but Rivers and the gang managed to pull a very wicked vibe out of thin air. The tough looking dark suited security folks did not seem amused at all by the antics that involved multiple crowd runs, office furnature destruction and general mayhem, but the power of the fans proved strong enough to keep the vibes happy and cool. A fun show in a place that probably wasnt used to so much fun.

(later) well, a nasty monsoon blew through Times Square right as we were setting up, so as the show started there wasnt quite the crowd that was expected and things were looking kinda grim out there! But fortunately the rain soon started to let up and as the band ran through their short set and interviews, more and more people gathered to watch the band on the 5 story Nasdaq and Reuters screens, and listen in on their cell phones. After the show, Rivers did interviews with Reuters News and Time Magazine, and then we bid adieu to the Reuters offices and the HP peeps.

...today we are in Canandaigua, NY, about 50 miles south of Rochester, situated on a beautiful lake. Right on. The CMAC is a really nice outdoor semi-covered ampitheater. The challenge with these kind of venues is that they are so comfortable that its easy for both the audience and band to get too cozy and forget to rock out. Fortunately Rivers and the boys have many tricks up their sleeves to get the people jumping around and rocking, and said tricks were certainly employed tonight to good effect! It was pretty cool - the longer the show went on the less the audience followed the rules and eventually the "forbidden" aisles between the seating areas were packed with dancing jumping shouting fans, the way it should be at a rock show. RC did his part by making some unplanned forays out into the audience to mix it up wild style.

Opening tonight was the excellent band Rival Schools. I hadn't heard much from them since their debut album "United By Fate" came out several years ago, but it appears they are gearing up to release their second album now. It was a real pleasure to see them in action again.

Big ups to the Buffalo (Clarence) people in the house tonight, including Wilson crony Lee Loretta, OG Special Goodness member and Thruway gas nipper extraordinaire.

2010/07/10 Sarnia, Ontario: Bayfest | News

...Today is one of those "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" kind of tour days, where due to the logistics, we have to get up at the crack of dawn, go to the airport, fly to Detroit, get on the bus, cross the border, and drive onward to Sarnia ...and then do the Sarnia show. Thats the way it works sometimes! As I write this, we are enroute to the border crossing, and everybody is either napping or looking like they need one! By tonight hopefully everyone will be recharged and ready to rock again!

Well, the rock was brought to Sarnia, just a bit later than anticipated. Some sort of delay prior to our arrival on the scene set everything back an hour or so, so adjustments were made and we soldiered onward. Here and there the band wrestled with some random equipment mysteries but everything worked out fine in the end, with a raucous Sarnia crowd urging the guys into the requisite rock power moves. This was weezer's first time ever in Sarnia, we've never been here before. As a matter of fact, July is chock full of Canadian weezer firsts: Ottawa, St Johns, and Halifax. Later in the month will be the first Montreal show since the co-headline with the Pixies back in 2005. Everyone is feeling the mutual Canadian love. In that spirit, post show, a bus screening of the new Rush documentary was required watching for some, as midnight passed and Scott's birthday began.

Todays weezer show took place on the first of the two days of the Basilica Block Party, which was held in downtown Minneapolis right next to the freeway on a blocked off section of roads and dusty vacant lots, across the highway from the domed basilica that it was held in support of. A ton of people came out on this fine day to rock out strong. Its been a good while since we've been in Minneapolis, and the people seemed really primed to get some weezer in their systems. A glorious mutual freakout! Its always a plus when the energy on stage and in the crowd is well matched.

...Today the weez gang reassembled in Minneapolis after the long holiday July 4th weekend spent with friends and families at various places across the US and A. Tomorrow is the show at the Basilica Block Party here in the Twin Cities, and coming right up are 10 rock shows in the US and Canada, including several places Weezer has never been before, like St. Johns and Halifax!

...Well, here we are at the big bad Bonnaroo festival! Theres so many people here, and so many bands! Wow. Well, more later, time to explore and get ready for the Weezer set... GO TEAM USA!!!

Well, fortunately the satellite was working on the bus, and the day started with watching the World Cup action. First we saw South Korea take out Greece, and then it was on to the big kahuna of the day, USA v. England - their first World Cup match up in 60 years. We settled in and all eyes were glued to the screen for 2 very tense and fun hours. Team USA holding England to a 1-1 draw was pretty cool, I must say. The sheer epicness of soccer at this high level is intense - so much drama, and not just in the LBC!

Later, during warmups in the bus, the band was joined by Julia Nunes, and they ran through the vocal harmonies of "Trippin Down the Freeway", which Julia was slated to join in on during the show. She also prepared the song on her ukulele, and everything seemed to be all set. but during the show, it was discovered her ukulele was not tuned to the right key for the song, so she didn't match any of the other instruments tuning. Oops! Well, we adjusted on the fly and Julia still supplied her soaring vocals to the song, which was pretty sweet all by itself.

Hot summer weather moved in to the Nashville area just in time to make Bonnaroo a 95 degree 100 percent humidity sweaty festival. Which really is as it should be! How else would you have throngs of half naked revelers rocking out with wild abandon? Heat creates rock, its proven. Weezer hit the stage at sundown, and put in an epic performance. Rivers once again pushed the boundaries of what could be climbed, what could be thrown, what could be lifted, and what could be smashed! And the crowd roared like a lion.

Big ups to special attendees Brian's mom, and Adam Yellen and his Bonnaroo crew Jake and Dan!

...Well, we assembled our motley crue yesterday evening in Louisville (home of our fave mid-south record shop Ear X-Tacy, though we still miss Melanie!), and made our way over the river to the oddly situated Horseshoe Casino. Its sort of in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by deep woods, steep hills, and nature. And the casino is actually a boat on the river which is why it was legal to build...er, float. And were not actually playing on the boat, but rather in the parking lot nearby. And I swear, I can hear a banjo duel off in the woods somewhere! THIS IS ROCK.

Everyone was saying how today was their hottest day of the year so far... and to that I must reply with a cliche: it's not the heat, its the humidity! But yeah... it was the heat too. Brutal! But a fine rain-free day for outdoor rock, in the parking lot of a casino. The folks came primed to have some fun and blow off steam, and thats what happened. We had a guest singer dueting on "If Your're Wondering" with Rivers tonight, and dude could sing! Later I had to bust out some Germanic line dancing moves as Rivers dragged me to center stage during the particularly raucous "Kids". Its a good thing I took all those Germanic line dancing lessons back in Leipzig.

On Saturday, June 12, 2010, the U.S. will meet England in the World Cup for the first time since 1950. 60 years ago, the U.S. famously beat the British soccer powerhouse 1-0, in a game since dubbed “The Miracle on Grass.” In honor of the historic 2010 rematch, Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo, a rabid soccer fan, has led the band to record an “unofficial” theme song for the U.S. team, titled “Represent.” Weezer’s A.P.E. Radio station, “Radio Weezer,” will begin to spin “Represent” at 9 am PDT on Friday, June 11th – the day before the U.S./England kickoff. The song will repeat frequently on the station to rally support for the team, and will be a free download on iTunes in the U.S. for one week starting at midnight on Friday, June 11th.

Rivers Cuomo and Weezer will be cheering on the team at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, where Weezer will be headlining over the weekend. The Grammy-winning frontman was quoted on MLSsoccer.com as saying, "They are actually playing the game on a big screen at the festival. So if you can believe it, I'll be sitting in front of that big screen with all the other concert-goers, watching the game. As soon as we realized we were going to confirm that show, we asked the promoter if they were going to be showing the game. They're actually making a big deal out of it."

"...One day last August, I went downtown in Toronto to RockWood for a friend's birthday, and at about 1:45 in the morning, a friend and I were sitting on the side of the road eating some street meat when a strange man approached us. He had a camera and I think he introduced himself and then asked if we wouldn't mind if he took a few pictures of our feet. My friend thought he was some kind of nighttime creep with a foot fetish, and said no, but I didn't think any harm could come of it, so I said okay. Well, after our little photoshoot, he told me that he was actually doing some photography for a new album that was coming out, and would I mind if he use the pictures. "Sure". "Okay, well will you sign these papers?" At which point he busted some crumpled papers out of his jacket and fumbled around for a pen. As I was reading the document, he said something along the lines of "the band is actually pretty famous, you might have heard of them, they're called Weezer"... of course I've heard of Weezer, come on!! So I signed it, but at this point, I was still thinking he might be a stalker with a foot fetish and some weird desire to have my autograph (so did my friend). Anyway, I didn't really believe that he was actually from Weezer, and I was a little drunk.... but sure enough, a few months later, I was looking through the pictures from that night on facebook, and I remembered this little encounter, and decided to look up weezer.com and sure enough! ...As Rivers first reported on his Twitter page, Weezer has just recorded a new song for the U.S. soccer team entitled "Represent"! It's on the fast track for release...the current plan is to release it before this Saturday's game. Artwork? Video..? Stay tuned...

...Well, we're in Milwaukee and the music of the Verge Fest is echoing thru the canyons of the city. By a twist of touring fate, we are back in Milwaukee not too terribly long after last December's show at Eagles Ballroom. It's nice to be back here, this time sans winter coats. Later this evening we will find the stage and rock it appropriately...

Last night on the bus ride up from KC, we ran through one of the more violent thunderstorms I've witnessed in years, with blinding sheets of rain pummeling the bus and endless lightning bolts everywhere. By the time we got to Milwaukee in the morning, things seemed calm again. However, by afternoon heavy rain had found us again and the Verge Fest got wetter and wetter and wetter. By the time AFI was playing, things were positively brutal out there!

Then, as the crews moved the AFI gear off the stage and got the Weezer stuff ready to go, a cold breeze blew through and the rain tapered off, for the most part. Weezer fans rewarded for their patience, once again!

...howdy folks - another Weezer micro tour is underway! Everyone made their way into Kansas City last night, gearing up for the shows this weekend. Today is the Kansas City concert, taking place at the City Market with a bunch of other bands including Coheed And Cambria. Then on Saturday we play Milwaukee at the Verge Music Festival. Coming up next weekend is the Horseshoe Casino in Southern Indiana and big bad Bonnaroo in Tennessee!

Well, one things for sure, there was a ton of ENERGY in the air tonight. Energy in the loud and raucous crowd, bursting at the seams, pushing the the City Market to its limits. Energy in the air, as strange winds whipped thru eveything threatening violent weather, but mercifully holding off. And energy on stage of course, as Rivers and the gang gave the crowd a unique blend of the what for and what they were looking for. There were some occasional technical oddities, like the entire lighting system getting unplugged for a while and some odd unintended sound effects creeping out of the synthesizers here and there, but for the most part things held together (like the Milennium Falcon) and we made the jump to lightspeed.

Tonight we had a quartet of fans join in on "If You're Wondering...". These enthusastic folks won a contest with the radio station, and they did it via auditioning. Brian ran thru the song with them prior to the show and proclaimed "they're ready".

Another dude came up on stage later, but that was by Rivers' request - he needed someone to crash into him to pop the balloon he had stuffed under his shirt. Yes. OK, it made sense at the time!

Big ups to out pal Timothy "Speed" Levitch (who you may recall from the '97 Y100 "Undone" session Sweater existential rap on "Video Capture Device"), who attended the show tonight. And if you dont know about Speed, well, get familiar! Kansas City, you are lucky to have him!

...A few days back, the Weez men went to the George Lopez show studio and taped their performance for the Lopez episode to air on May 17, (this coming Monday night). Todays picture gives you a little taste of what was going on there. Yeah, I'm not saying what was going on there made any sense or anything - but there it is...

...next Wednesday the guys go to Ellen's studio to tape for the Ellen episode to air on Thursday May 20. I dont think there will be bunny suits or The Donald at that one. But who can really say? All I know is Weezer Daytime TV is The Stuff.
